This is the post you need if your are planning a trip to Japan. We are gonna share in this special post 10 tips you should know before going to Japan.

 

  1. GET WI-FI CONNECTION INFORMATION

Ask wifi information at the airport. Even if Japan is a tecnological country, there is not free wi-fi in Japan, maybe only in Tokyo and Kyoto but not in other cities.

 

  1. IRASYAIMASE

When you get to every places in Japan: restaurants or stores, you will hear “Irasyaimase”. It’s meaning somethink like “Welcome” but you don’t need to replay. It may souds rude to you but it’s totally Ok.

 

  1. MANY JAPANESE CAN’T NOT SPEAK ENGLISH

Many Japanese cannot speak english, or they don’t want to, or they are not get used to, anyways they just can not speak in english.

 

  1. JAPANESE TAKES OFF SHOES

You might already know that Japanese take off theirs shoes before they get inside their houses or a restaurants and especially in Temples. Just be ready for that!

 

  1. GO TO THE POST OFFICE IF YOU NEED CASH

There are many ATM in Japan but they works only with Japanese credit cards. You need to go to the ATM in the post office or the one inside museums, they will work.

 

  1. SIZE MATTERS

Japanese are small, or better they are “petite”, so if you are wearing size Medium in Europe you will need size XL in Japan. For shoes if you are a woman and has size 39 or 40 and if you are a men and you have size 43 or 44 you probably might be able to find any.

 

  1. VEGITARIANS & NO ICE

There exist vegitarias restaruants in Japanese but not many. Anyways you will be able to find tofu soups in some japanese restaurants.

If you order a cold drink like ice-tea or a beer they will arrive automaticaly with ice. If you don’t want ice you should let them know.

 

  1. RUSH HOUR TRAIN

When you travel through Japan we suggest to use train for transportation, but we want to let you know that Japanese train are crazy packted especially early morning and afternoon after work; so if you are gonna travel with big luggages by local train we raccomand to you to skip rush hours

 

  1. NO TIPS

When you finish eating and you pay your check you need to come up to the cashier and pay there. You don’t need to pay tips at all. If you want to give tips they might be confused.

 

  1. NO SMOCKING

Sorry but in Japan you can not smoke everywhere. They existe particular smoking room inside hotels and restaruant and some smoking area in the streets but not everywhere. So if you are a smoker be carefful to not smoke on the street you will receive a ticket. Ask someone ot a policeman he will show you the closest smoking are to you.
