On Thursday, the 30th of march, the world’s most popular watches and jewelry fair, Baselworld ended. This year has gained international success and celebrated the centenary of the opening of the first exhibition back in 1917. One hundred years that signed the history of the watchmaking industry in Switzerland and for the international trade of watches in the world.

As a good Swiss blogger I could not miss this important event. I’ve always been passionate about watches and jewelries since I was a little child. It was a great joy for me to be able to come to Basel to discover the latest news on watches and jewelries.

This year was a short but intense visit. I arrived in Basel on Monday 27th around 6pm and the entrance to the fair was already closed. Fortunately, I was able to get in anyways thanks to a friend of mine from Paris. Once we were inside we went to get an appetizer organized by Daniel Wellington, the brand of the trendiest watches on social medias. We were at the fair up to 8.30pm. After dinner I went to the hotel to rest a bit because I knew the day after would be very busy and in fact it was.

On Tuesday the 28th of March I went to the fair at 10:30 am where I had my first appointment with Fawaz Gruosi, the owner and creative director of de Grisogono. De Grisogono is absolutely my favorite brand for jewelries and watches. We had a pleasant conversation on a collaborative project, for the top-secret time, which I will soon reveal in the coming months. After our meeting, Carolina showed me some new pieces of the 2017 collection. Among them there was the new Eccentric watch with stylized numbers only in the lower part of the dial, and the new moon clock, so-named for the dial half-moon shape. For the jewelry collection, de Grisogono has reveled the iconic Allegra collection with the variant “toi & moi” symbolizing the couple. Finally, the iconic collection Boule in 3 colors: frozen quartz and rubellite, turquoise with amethyst and emeralds and the third variant in rose quartz.

The second appointment was with the Turin jeweler Roberto Demeglio that this year was presented with a new stand in Hall 1.1, with a very prestigious collection. The stand was dominated by a captivating game of diamonds, inspired by the iconic DIVA collection, a quintessential Roberto Demeglio jewel. The key word for this collection is innovation, the essence of Roberto Demeglio jewelry that inspired the creation of the new stand in form and color.

Roberto Demeglio presented at Baselworld 2017 the new Giotto collection, where innovation and tradition come together to create a unique jewel. Roberto Demeglio introduces an evolution of the Pure collection, including the new millennium tennis bracelet reinterpreting a timeless classic by adding a touch of glamour to fashion while maintaining its preciousness.

This year I also had the opportunity to discover a new jeweler, a real artist, Alessio Boschi, with Roman origin. Alessio shows all of his creativity in a meticulous attention to details and cultural and architectural research for each jewel. Master pieces from his collection are: the Collosseum Ring: a ring-shaped Tower of Pisa, the balcony of Romeo and Juliet, the Bridge of Sighs, the Rialto Bridge and even the famous Venetian gondola. In addition to the Cultural collection, Alessio also offers a collection inspired by the world of nature and the sea creatures.

Finally I was able to admire the new collection from Charriol. Charriol has revived the iconic watch collection of St-Tropez line with more color variations and new proposals of cable bangle collection. With the Genevian brand I took part in a photo contest, for which you will find out more from my photos on Instagram and soon on the blog. I wanted to call this photo shoot collaboration “purple Journey” because purple is the color that represents the brand, as you may have noticed from the photos of the stand.

The news that more impressed this year at Baselworld is the partnership between Tag Heuer and the street artist Alec Monopoly. During the opening day of the fair Alec Monopoly painted a stand, which was suspended in the air, and he also customized a watch that you can see in my cover photo.

If I have to define myself in only one word I would say “Eccentric” like the new de Grisogono watch called Eccentrica watch with stylized numbers only in the lower part of the dial. Eccentrica naturally seems to have been part of the brand forever. It radiates an aesthetic that instinctively creates a strong sense of belonging, freely interpreting the distinctive signature the have for more the 20 years reflected the emblematic de Grisogono style.

The key word for this collection is innovation, the essence of Roberto Demeglio jewelry. The innovation of Roberto Demeglio is the elastic system of his bracelets and rings. That’s the reason why Demeglio is well know for his elastic jewelry declined in many forms, size and colors.
